Biodegradable products are actually made from oxo biodegradable plastics which have metal added to them. When the metal is heated the plastic breaks down into smaller pieces called "microplastics".
The resulting microplastics are left in the environment indefinitely. Microplastics don't actually disintegrate which makes them horrible for the environment.
